And for a system better than Direct Democracy:

Any citizen can directly join a government think-tank of their choosing, without being limited to just one.

Example: If your passion is Farming, you should be able to participate at the government level on a BC Farming Council, and contribute your ideas directly and officially and have them registered and recognized on the record, as an official member of the Council.  This way, instead of a Direct Democracy system whereby all citizens would be expected or required to keep up to speed on all issues - only those with a passion, interest or expertise in food production would have significant input, and the issue (whatever sector you're discussing) resists the possibility of being hijacked by a mis-informed majority.  This is superior to the installation of any system that requires ongoing democratic participation from a population now fatigued with endless votes.

Furthermore, instead of merely voting for another decision-maker, citizens can directly act as the decision makers themselves on specific issues that they are highly educated and aware of.  In a Utopia, everyone would already know about all issues at all times, but as our populations increase, this scenario becomes increasingly and permanently unlikely.  I personally know nothing about Genetically Modified Food, so to allow me an equal vote on the issue as those who have dedicated an entire lifetime of study to it is not only unnecessary, but it is also fatally reckless to subject any specific policy to the will of the herd.   If you really want a say - join the GMO Food Council.

Within these councils, members will publish their writings, opinions and recommendations and an Executive Board will be created and voted on by the other members, and these votes will be online and ongoing.  If an Executive Council Member has lost the confidence of the other members, those members can signify this by changing their votes at any time and transfer it to another member of the council.   The votes will be displayed at all times, and inter-changeable.  There will be no set election dates for Executive Council members.   The vote is online and ongoing.  The Executive Council will summarize and deliver the needs of the council to the governing body for implementation.

In addition to the various policy councils, we will set up Regional commissions comprised initally of the losing candidates in the previous federal election.   For example, in Surrey North, the unsuccessful candidates from the Liberal Party, Christian Heritage Party, Conservative Party, Libertarian Party and the Green Party pledged their futures to represent Canadians in Ottawa and combined received over 60% of the votes in that riding, yet they are sidelined out of the political process altogether.   This type of result serves none of us well.  These contenders would comprise a Regional Commission, and act as a liason for any citizen to bring any issues forward to their government for consideration.   An incumbant who was defeated (ie: Dona Cadman) would not be eligible for a position.

This would mean that in this example, the Surrey North Regional Commission would be comprised of:

Shinder Purewal - Liberal Party

Bernadette Keenan - Green Party

Norris Barons - Libertarian Party

Kevin Pielak - Christian Heritage Party

The parties would no longer exist, but the coverage across the entire political spectrum would be apparant in all communities.   This is the best starting point for a new political system.

Questions and comments:  QUESTION: "Free-trade policies with all nations, regardless of politics" ??? Please explain the rationale.

  • ANSWER: Please explain which nations we should not trade with and why.  China and the USA because they are police states? The rest of Canada because they are ruled by a secretive and corrupt regime? Libya? And would that be Ghaddafi-controlled Libya or the rebel-controlled Libya? We are not going to interfere with nor judge other nations political systems and cut off trade with them because they have different politics than we do.  Every single nation on earth will have a different political system than we do. If we're the last free territory on the planet, who are we supposed to trade with? Eventually the world should be equal, open and free. We will set the example for this.

Axiomatica Editor's comments to Jamie Scott:

  • When you say 'greenest' i hope you mean in this sense: http://axiomatica.org/environment/green-technology/1175-a-real-green-idea

and i'd change it to 'ban hazardous chemicals' because i'm sure theyre not all bad..

as for pensions for elected officials.. my thought is that, if they don't have a long term (reasonable) income secured, they may consider doing some 'favors' in exchange for ensuring their own financial security..

"Free-trade policies with all nations, regardless of politics." this one, i would take right out, considering the history of the imperialistic free trade system.. it's not free.. let's talk about this. maybe it could be reworded like-
'long term treaties and trade deals for mutual benefit, no middlemen allowed. Respect Sovereignty. Sanctions on nations with poor human rights standards and empires.' (if you trade with china without regulation, all our jobs will go there, and we will be buying goods made by slaves, thereby supporting slavery... consider a tariff system and other protectionist measures) at the very least, don't call it 'free trade'

'Privatize the prison sector.' this is a terrible idea, because you will then have a profit motive for locking up and extending the stay of people who may be innocent, or just need help. How about 'turn the punitive system into a rehabilitative system. no prison privatization'

"Funnel AirCare revenues and carbon taxes into greener transport." you believe in carbon tax, and that more CO2 is less green?

Also, consider a new bill of rights, including all the rights in the american bill of rights, plus these ones, proposed by FDR on his deathbed: http://axiomatica.org/myvideos?task=videodirectlink&id=366

Besides those things, i think this is an amazing platform, unlike Canada has ever seen, and I will support it! I hope to see you develop these ideas, and eventually write out your reasoning for each, and some more details for how they could be implemented.
